Artist Biography
My name is Jane Thuss and I am a self-taught artist living on a farm outside of Mount Brydges, Ontario, Canada, with my wonderful husband, some cows and chickens and lots of barn cats. Creativity has always been a huge part of my life. Ever since I could pick up a crayon, I’ve been creating art in one form or another.
I now work mainly with acrylic paint on canvas and watercolor paper. My love of nature and vibrant colour is reflected in all of my paintings. The subjects of my paintings on canvas are mostly landscapes, birds, and flowers. Recently I’ve developed a new style of painting animal portraits, with acrylics on watercolour paper. Although I work full time as a medical receptionist, I paint whenever I get the chance and I am always honing my skills as an acrylic painter.
I’ve shown and sold my artwork at juried art shows at Gallery in the Grove in Brights Grove, The Square Foot Show in Port Stanley, The Orchid Show in Windsor, the Off the Wall Art Show at Quai du Vin Winery, St. Thomas and for four years at the Paint Ontario Show in Grand Bend. I do commissioned paintings and I have sold internationally.
The process of creating a piece of artwork from a blank canvas or paper and my imagination, still feels like magic to me. I am always excited to learn new techniques and my artwork is constantly evolving.
Artist Statement
Getting outside is good for your soul. Through my paintings I want to bring the outside in.
I am inspired by nature and it is my subject matter, whether it is a traditional landscape, a bird, a flower or an animal painting. I paint with acrylic on canvas and on watercolour paper. The use of bright colours and light and shadow in my artwork captures the fleeting moment of the subject and brings it to life.
My goal is to inspire those who see my work, to look at the beauty in the natural world around them and be reminded to slow down and reconnect with nature.
